Yum Yum - The Northampton Lost Soul Night - Returns

After the loss of the Bibliotek venue in June this year things looked a little shaky for the return of Yum Yum. However after much searching and negotiations with venue we think we have found the perfect place.

Yum Yum - The Northampton Lost Soul Night will return on Friday the 28th November @ new venue The Picturedrome.

The Picturedrome we think is the ideal place for us with it's large dance floor, huge stage, excellent PA and luxurious decor. For those of you not familiar with the venue it was converted from a cinema in 1998 by The Richardson Group and has become a one of the finest venues in the midlands. It has a smoking terrace on the 2nd floor mezzanine, ample car parking, full size movie screen and is only a 5 minute walk from the town center.

The night will kick off at 8pm and go through until 1am with admission price of £4 before 10pm and £5 after.

Usual Buzz and Yum Yum dj's will be providing that beating rhythm for the night with some very special guests coming along to liven things up.

Spivs Play The Buzz Friday 12th September

Those of you that came to last months event will know that we pulled out all the stops, to make the New Roadmender as different from how you may remember it being recently. The results were stunning.

This Friday will be no exception.

We are back in the main hall and bar 2 with very special guest band The Spivs from North London. These guys promise to shake rattle and roll your expectations with their blinding take on 50's Rockabilly and Garage Punk madness.
 www.myspace.com/thespivsonline

In the main hall we will be spinning the best upfront alternative dance music from stomping Northern Soul, Rock & Roll, Ska and Funk along with the usual 60's Beat, New Wave, Brit pop, Garage Punk and Indie.

Kickoff is 10:30pm with free admission before 11pm with a 3am finish.

The band starts at 11:30pm in bar 2

See you there,

Rob

Souled Out - The New Northern Soul Movie

For those of you not familiar with the film already, please spare us a few moments to bring you up to date with the backstory…

1974. Power cuts, strikes and boot-boy aggro on the terraces. Flares,Chopper bikes and beer at fourteen pence a pint.

Joe McCain, 17 and restless, is bored with the flatline tedium of a life that seems like it´s going nowhere. Enter Jane, moving to the beat of a music that Joe´s never heard, a vision of loveliness who opens the door to a whole world of sound, movement and all-nighter dancing at The Wigan Casino - the home of Northern Soul! Swept along on this tide of pulsating dance and lust, Joe finally finds somewhere he belongs and the acceptance and true love he yearns for.

Director Shimmy Marcus and production company Ipso Facto Films are heading up the production in Stoke on Trent over the coming months. They will also be joined by an excellent cast line up (one which I’m personally very excited by) that includes Martin Compston (Sweet Sixteen) , Alfie Allen (Flashbacks of a Fool, Atonement) and Pat Shortt (Garage) to name drop but a few.

So, with the shoot dates imminent be sure to check the website soon for, videos, news, podcasts and updates from the production and I hope to see you all soon!

Quite a few Buzz and Yum Yum faces have made it up to Stoke for parts as extras and it looks like filming is going to continue for a while yet. So, if you fancy a go yourself get over to the website and sign up.

Bibliotek
Bibliotek
Bibliotek gone for good - 15/7/2008

They say nothing ever lasts forever, but sometimes things don't seem to even last 5 minutes. Anyhow the sad news is that Bibliotek is now closed down. The fire that burnt very brightly for us for the last three months wasn't enough to sustain this lovely venue. I guess one successful event a month was never going to be enough to pay the bills especially as no other alternative nights were either encouraged or left to develop and grow.
This is also a refection on the continuing desperate state of the pub, club and live music scene with venues closing down at a rate of 27 a month in the UK thanks to the support of our wonderful New Labour (right wing) government. Echoes of the early 80's me thinks. What was that lyric from The Specials 1981 hit "Ghost Town" oh yeah - "All the clubs have been closed down." Amazing that nobody ever learns from the past isn't it.
Anyhow, onwards and upwards. We are at this minute looking at 3 very different venues to continue Yum Yum - The Lost Soul Night so watch this space and check out the Yum Yum micro site for more information.

Yum Yum #2
Yum Yum #3 - Saturday 28th June

Oh, now we are on a roll.
The 3rd Yum Yum - Lost Soul Night is only a few weeks away and our reputation is growing. After last months event with guest DJ the lovely Kylee Lewis we have another local hero Kev Such coming across from the Cream Cracker Soul Night in Rothwell. The Cream Cracker nights have been synonymous with quality up front dance events for the last few years so be ready to dance your little socks off.
The usual Yum Yum line up will be in place however we have plans to convert room 2 from a chill out area in to another dance room.
One final thing. Massive apologies to all of you that were expecting the new badges to be available at the last event. They are now ready and will be there for you on this night ;0)

Date: Saturday 28th June
Venue: Bibliotek, Castilian St, Northampton.
Time: 10pm - 3am (no admission after 1am)
Price: £4 b4 11pm - £5 after.

Ballroom Blitz
Ballroom Blitz is back - Saturday 21st June

After the success of the Ballroom Blitz nights @ The Roadmender during 2007 we have decided to continue the night at the home of our Yum Yum venue, Bibliotek.
The change of venue was due to Northamptons premier Rock Night Blast Chamber moving it's regular Saturday fixtures from The Soundhaus to the new Roadmender.
However with the continued success of our events at the Castilian Street venue we think Ballroom Blitz has found a new home.
Regular Blitz DJ's will continue spinning the usual mix of dance music from 1970 to 1979 including DISCO, NEW WAVE, GLAM, REGGAE & 70's Soul.

Date: Saturday 21st June
Venue: Bibliotek, Castilian St, Northampton.
Time: 10pm - 3am (no admission after 1am)
Price: £4 b4 11pm - £5 after.

The Buzz Heroes
The Buzz - 13th June Event

Well this is it, our first night back at The Roadmender after 5 years.
Yes the old place has changed a bit. There is now a smoking terrace on the roof for all you addicts (including me), we have a new stage in the front bar and hopefully a new dance floor.
To celebrate our return to this infamous venue we have decided to take a retrospective look back at those classic 90's Britpop anthems.
However this does not mean we will in any way ignore the usual buzz eclectic mix.
Anyhow, the night kicks off at a slightly later time of 10:30pm and runs through until 3am with free admission before 11pm.

The New Roadmender
The Buzz is Moving

After a stunning 9 year residency at Northampton's Soundhaus venue and due to the Soundhaus closing down at the end of May we are on the move.
We will be taking up a new residency at the newly (yes once again) re-furbished Roadmender in June. We will still be keeping to the 2nd Friday of the month slot but have extended the finish time to 3am with a 10:30pm opening time. Admission will still be free before 11PM but you will then have to pay the admission price of £5 otd.
Our first event at the new venue is on the Friday 13th June (hmm is that a good omen?)
Further information can be found on the roadmender website.

All dates have been booked and the events will be the last Saturday of every month for the rest of the year and we have also secured some stunning guest slots including Duffy's tour DJ Liam Quinn in August.

Paul Weller
Buzz DJ joins the Paul Weller band

Resident Buzz DJ and The Moons front man Andy Crofts has been approached by Mr Paul Weller (The Modfather) himself and asked to join his backing band whilst promoting his new album "22 Dreams" which is released on the 2nd of June.
Andy joins Paul Weller, Andy Lewis, Steve Craddock and replacement drummer Damon Minchella for the UK, Europe, America and Far East tours to promote the new album.
Andy will be back on DJ duties between stages of this monumental tour and I think we would all like to wish him all the very best.

We were lucky enough to catch Paul at the Childhood Cancer charity event at the Royal Albert Hall in April with guests Duffy and Rodger Daltry where some of his new material was performed accoustically with Steve Craddock.

All we can say is the new album sounds stunning and the tour looks to be another sell out event.

Kay, pissed NYE? You decide!
Ballroom Blitz & The Buzz NYE part @ The Roadmender

Ok, hands up those of you that made it until 4am?
Those that did we salute you, talk about hardcore, and we are talking proper hardcore. Not that drivel listened to by those pillocks that dress up in orange boiler suits and jump around (because they can't actually dance) to that thumping crap all night, and it is crap, that's why you can buy it in Tesco's for 3p for a 50 CD compilation ;0)
Anyway here finally are some of the images of the night. The quality is a bit rubbish because of course the smoke machine made it almost impossible to see anything and the vodka made it impossible to focus.
But what a night! The New Roadmender was completely sold out and you even had to queue up for a fag. Madness, but the best night out this NYE anywhere else in the world! FACT. How do I know, cause you all keep telling me so.
